Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know how much product I need? If you have an idea how deep you want to spread your mulch or soil, all that is left to figure out is your total square feet of coverage. Start by measuring each individual area by itself by stepping off the length and the width. Each stride you make is approximately 3 feet in length. Multiply the length x width and you get the total square feet for that particular area. Repeat the step for each area to be covered, then add all the totals for your grand total. (Note: Do not add all lengths and multiply by the total of all widths. You will not have a correct total.)

How much volume can my pickup hold? A full size 3/4 or 1 ton pickup can hold 3 cubic yards, slightly rounded, but product weight must be considered. Most full size pickups can handle 3 yards of mulch, 2 yards of compost or 1 to 1.5 yards of soil product. If hauling rock product, a full size can handle between .5 and 1 cubic yard. Never load more than what is reasonable or what your vehicle is specified to carry. A smaller compact pickup will haul about 1/2 what a full size pickup will carry.

How much is a Unit? One "unit" equals 7.4 cubic yards. One Unit will cover: 2400 sq ft @ 1" deep 1200 sq ft @ 2" deep 800 sq ft @ 3" deep 600 sq ft @ 4" deep 400 sq ft @ 5" deep

How much is a cubic yard? One cubic yard is a three dimensional cube that measures 3 feet wide, 3 feet long and 3 feet tall. Compute how much you need

How much does a yard of product weigh? Weights for our products will vary from winter to summer because of the moisture content in the product. Typically, mulch products will weigh between 500 to 800 lbs. per cubic yard, 1000 to 1600 lbs. for compost, 1300 to 1600 lbs. for soil mixes and 2500 to 2700 lbs. for gravel products. One Cubic Yard will cover 324 sq ft @ 1" deep 162 sq ft @ 2" deep 108 sq ft @ 3" deep 81 sq ft @ 4" deep 54 sq ft @ 5" deep
